Two new hats, the knitted one elizabeth zimmermann hat, with embroidery

I cleaned the stove, frig and dishwasher, counters and appliances today. Floor was done the other day already...woohoo..I do not like doing the floor.

Two new hats, both elizabeth Zimmermann pattern from Knitting workshop

Hubby got the camera going last night. I think I put the batteries in the charger wrong, so of course the camera would not work.

Anyway, The two hats with the design, are a pattern from Knitting Workshop by Elizabeth Zimmermann. These hats are the first patterns of hers that I have made. But I am very intrigued by her writing and her patterns.

The camo hat, is knit 3, purl 1. I kind of made it up. There are probably hats out there with this design, but I did it on my own. You can't see the ribbing very well.
I didn't like the way the bottom flared, (I started at the bottom )with the knit 3, so when I was all done, I picked up the cast on stitches, and did knit 1, purl 1, for 1 inch. Like the way is looks much better.
The camo hat is for hubby while he works outside in the winter.

I surely haven't gottem much done since the 20th of December. Seems like I have been yarning a lot, but what did I get done? not much. Seems there has been enough time to do a whole afghan, or an adult sweater, and I only get 3 hats done...oh my

I have a gift for you. If you like hot fudge sauce on your ice cream, then here is a decadant recipe for you.
I got it from my Mom years ago, but she doesn't know where she got it from.

warning warning warning, this is not a healthy recipe...lol

Richmond chocolate Sauce

Mix 1/2 cup sugar
1 1/2 TB. of cornstarch
2 TB. of cocoa powder
dash of salt

Add to 1/2 cup boiling water and stir until thickened. Take off heat and add

1 1/2 tsp. butter
1/2 tsp. vanilla
stir until melted and combined.

this is so good.

The 3 lighter color ones are loom knitted on the green knifty knitter loom, 24 rounds, then I added a crocheted border on each one.

Toddler sweater made from Caron Simply Soft yarn. I do not like to knit with this yarn. It is too slippery or something. Crocheting is much better with this yarn. This pattern is from an old old raglan pattern. Leisure Arts Leaflet 150, Knitted Seamless Raglans, 9 mos. to size 50. This is a great pattern leaflet. It has pullovers with different necklines and cardigans with different necklines. Both worsted weight and sport weight patterns...how cool is that.

This pink sweater has been mocking me for the past week, almost finished, just needed to finish the bottom ribbing and the sleeves. Finally last night, I decided to just finish it and get it our of here...

I have no pictures to show, no projects finished. Oh, I did make a scarf from Craftybegonia's patterns, but didn't take a picture yet. It's in greens and blues. I have a toddeler sweater in progress, but I am bored with it. I have a hat started, but sort of bored with that too. I have a book started, but bored with that too.
Do you see a theme here? A bit of boredom, probably due to the darker days outside. It is gray skies here in NLM (northern lower michigan), and colder days and nights. I just want to sit by the fire(we have 2 woodstoves, only using 1 right now) and vegetate. bad signs.
Maybe I can get into something soon. This poor little blog is looking pitiful with no new posts or pics.

I have been cooking, but we have been eating, so no pics.
I made an apple pie, hubby was so thankful

I made a mexican casserole, so easy
crushed doritos in the bottom
a can of chili on top
sour cream on top
grated cheese on top
heat in the microwave until the cheese melts, then top with
diced tomatoes and lettuce
yum

I made a quiche. so easy

make a pie crust or buy one
put in the pie pan and top with
cooked broccoli
diced smoked sausage
grated cheese

mix 4 eggs and 1 1/2 cups milk together and pour over stuff in pie pan
bake at 400 degrees for about 50 min. so good

Hubby's birthday was yesterday so we ate out at Fazolis. He likes Italian food. Went to Sam's for a bit of food for the weekend, then came home.
We bought cheese spread and wheat thins, and deli meat and whole wheat sub buns...yum for football day.

Here is the last of the tiny balls of yarn, rolled together with 4 strands. Now it is all gone. Out of that I was able to get 8 hats, and 2 cowls and 1 scarflet.

Remember this neck cowl? Well I made another one, a scarflet and some hats. These hats are loom knitted on the yellow knifty knitter loom, and they were some of those little balls, four strands rolled together. I still have the deep blue and purple ball, and the neuetral ball.

Someone gave me a large bag of tiny little balls of yarn, all different kinds of yarn, some cotton, some fancy, actually most fancy.
So what to do with all those little balls of yarn. They really wouldn't work in a hat with a single strand...aha Here is what I did with all that yarn.

I sort of divided it into colors, dark blues purples and dark brown, reds oranges and pinks, lighter greens blues and a bit of white, and neutrals. Now I have 4 large balls of 4 stranded yarn. Yesterday, I used the yellow knifty knitter loom and made 2 hats.

I have made many many hats on the looms. I have never liked the cuff on it. It just looks funny to me. So here is what I did so I would not have to make the cuff, and it wouldn't roll up.
knit 1 row
purl 1 row
for 7 ridges. Then just the knit stitch.
Now this knit stitch is probably not the real knit stitch. It is the one over 1 stitch. Wrap the pegs twice around, and pull the bottom one over the top one. I think they call this the e-wrap.
Anyway, a nice even edge, with no cuff.

The lighter one most of the yarn was stretchy, so this was simple to make. The darker one, the yarn did not stretch much at all. I had a terrible time getting it over the pegs, the pegs kept bending backward, but none broke off. I have an extra loom for just this thing, if I break a peg, hubby cleans out the hole, and glues a new peg into it. voila, new loom...lol

I was reading over on Homemaking on the Homestead. She talked about an autumn soup. Sounded good to me. This is how I made mine.

Patty's Autumn soup

1/2 pound hamburger
lots of diced onion and celery
1 can tomato paste
1 can undrained green beans and carrots both
2 large potatoes, diced
some cabbage
2 quarts of chicken broth, (I cooked another chicken, and then made more broth. I am lovin' this broth)
1/2 tsp. pepper
1 tsp. salt
1 TBsp. raw sugar

This was so good and rich. yum

Two more patterns from Craftybegonia, the blue one is called Plum Pudding, Can't remember what the other one is called. These patterns are just so easy to make.
The third one, is a bulky yarn, someone gave it to me, I don't know what it is. Using size 13 needles, cast on 12. Do garter stitch until the length you want. Then bind off, and sew a button on one side. This goes just around the neck, sort of high on the neck and tucks under the chin. Would be very warm in the winter months.

Another T top sweater, and the latest scarf from Crafty Begonia called Unfussy. She used Forest green in her scarf for the dark part, but it looked black, and I liked the look of the black, so I used that for the dark part, and lime green for the lacy part.

I have 3 sweaters started, and none finished. Funny, but they are all in green. As I was digging down in my yarn bin, (I have many of these) I found a lot of green yarn. Two of them are solid colors, the third is green stripy.
No pics to show today though.
Having kids over for supper, pork roast, potatoes and carrots, coleslaw, applesauce, and choc. brownies for dessert. yum

We had bean soup with ham for supper tonight. We needed nothing else. It just tasted so good and the broth is so rich tasting. Here is hubby's recipe.

Put in the crockpot
1 48 ounce jar of northern beans
1 28 ounce of baked beans
1 quart home canned tomatoes, or a 28 ounce can of diced tomatoes
1 ham bone with lots of ham on it
onions, celery and carrots, we only had onions this time
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper

That's it. The best bean soup I ever tasted...yum
This fills a large crockpot. Course you could cook it on the stove, but then you would have to watch it more and stir it often...
If you try this soup, let us know how you like it...oh my it is good

Remember the other day I was cooking chicken broth in the crockpot. I got 4 quart bags to put in the freezer. good homemade chicken broth. yum

Candy, over at My Blessed Home, is having some posts on cleaning. So far,
Monday was keeping the dishes up, Tuesday was tackling the laundry, hopefully she will continue all week.
She has 4 kids, I think, so her laundry and many chores will need to be done more often than my home, with just hubby and myself.
But it is easy to see how organization will keep these cleaning chores easier to keep up on.
Click on over, she's on my blog list, and see what she has to say about cleaning. She even has some items on the left of her blog, that you can click on, about organization and cleaning. Lots of good info.

Here is how, with just the two of us, I keep up on laundry.
I have a 3 bin organizer, that is in my closet. Darks go in the first one, lights in the second bin, and sheets and towels go in the third. When one of them is full, I just pull the clothes out, as they are already sorted when we put them in there, and take them to the washer. Easy peasy

Another sweater. This is the same pattern that I used for the other sweater in the previous post. The first one I used a 9 needle. This orange one I used a 10 1/2 needle. Can you see the difference? The orange one is on the bottom, and the brick colored one is on the top. I probably added 3 months to the orange one.
Now many of you like pale pink, pale blue, pale yellow, pale green and white baby sweaters. I like them too, but sometimes I want lots of color. This orange sweater reminds me of a box of crayons.
I prefer to knit with brighter colors, thus, the orange sweater. Hope you like it too.

I cooked a 4 1/2 pound chicken in the crockpot this morning. I added onions, carrots,(I only had 5 small ones) and potatoes, salt and pepper and garlic salt.
We had this for supper.
Then I took all the meat off the bones, put the bones back in the crockpot with water, salt pepper and a bit of vinegar, to cook overnight. Instant, almost, chicken broth. I will strain it tomorrow, and freeze in quart size ziploc bags for use later.

I also needed to use up some peaches, so decided on peach crisp. Here is how I made it.
Peeled and sliced the peaches, and put them in a 1 1/2 quart size crockpot.
Added 1/4 cup of sugar, and 2 TBsp. of flour.
Then I mixed up 1/4 cup each of flour, sugar and oatmeal. Added some cinnamon, and some butter, mix it together, and put it on top of the peaches. Put the lid on, but put a knife under the lid so the "crisp" would not get soggy. This was so good. yum

I also made tuna noodle casserole for lunch.
Here is my recipe
******warning******, this recipe is not low fat
2 cups dry noodles, cook this in boiling water.
Mix 2 cans mushroom soup, 1 can drained peas, 2 cans drained tuna fish, and a bit of butter. Heat this in the microwave or stovetop until the butter melts.
Add the noodles, and serve.
I served it with cherry tomatoes and half a banana.

This was good eating today, but not lo-cal. I will definately not lose weight today, but every once in a while you need a high fat day...that's my story and I'm sticking to it...lol

I have been mending and sewing for 3 hours. I made this reversible vest for my DGD.
I also shortened her curtains.
I took in 2 of my shirts that are too big.
I finished sewing a cloth napkin.
I mended a hand made pillowcase

Think that's it. Should not have taken me this long, but I did the vest wrong.
I looked up online how to make a reversible vest, and found Whitney sews on You tube. Great instructions. She also has other items she shows how to make.
Going to a pizza party at our son's house.

I'm still here. Been cooking, eating, walking, knitting, but no projects finished.
I have 4 T top sweaters on the needle.
I started a new afghan. Saw a pretty, just plain granny squares using Caron Simply Soft yarn. I have a lot of that, so started an 11 round granny square. So far guess how many I have done. That's right, only 1. But it sure is pretty.
I am doing 1 round of 11 different colors, using an H hook. Simple, mindless, and really colorful.
I will get pics up later this week.

For supper last night we had blueberry pancakes from the freezer, and eggs. yummy

Tonight I dove a little deeper, and we are having hot dogs in macaroni and cheese and carrot sticks.
Tomorrow night will be chili dogs.

Are any of you using what you already have? Are you finding lots of goodies in the bottom or back of your freezer? What about your pantry? Are you finding some goodies in there too?
Hopefully we will save money, because we won't be having to throw food away because of freezer burn. Use it up first, and make great meals out of it.

I am having veggies or fruit with each meal, just not posting them, as they are spur of the moment picks. Frig items are first, then frozen, then canned. Didn't want you to think that we were having no fruits or veggies. We also have fruits and veggies at the senior center, when we go for lunch.

Last night we had everything from the freezer for supper.
I had pork loin, stir fry veggies, cooked rice and cooked winter squash.
It was very good.
We mixed the pork loin with the veggies, served it over rice and had the winter squash on the side. I didn't get a picture because we were hungry, and dove right in.

Remember when I said that we were eating from the frig and freezer, and pantry?
Well, we have had some interesting meals for the past 2 nights.

Sunday night we had oven baked shrimp, fresh blueberries and toast with peanut butter and homemade strawberry rhubarb jam

Monday night we had pork loin chops with blueberry pancakes.

Not sure what tonight will bring for food. I am not a planner aheader. Tonight we had hotdogs and macaroni salad.
I think tomorrow night will be hotdogs without the buns and leftover blueberry muffins...now isn't that a combination?

Is anyone doing this with me?

Here is the newest baby outfit. Sized for a 3 month old.
The pattern is from Just Crochet, called 3 Piece Pram Set, JC45A

This is a newborn pattern, but I used a size F hook, Caron Simply Soft yarn.
I also changed up the britches a bit. The pattern calls for ribbon at each leg bottom and the waistband. It is hard to dress a squirmy baby, and have to tie those ribbons at the same time, so I used elastic instead of ribbon.

Turned out really cute. What do you think? pics are clickable to get a larger view.

Spaghetti Sauce in the crock pot

2 quarts of homecanned tomatoes
1 pound hamburger
lots of celery and onions
1 small can tomato paste
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. Italian seasoning
1 TB. sugar

Let cook on high, with the top vented a bit to let the moisture out. I just put a spoon under the lid, and that seems like enough. It was very good.

I have been faithfully crocheting, and finished a baby top. But want to wait until I make the britches to go with them, before I show you...now, don't you just want to see???

Back to pantry cooking again.Remember, we bought that food, we wanted it, we spent money on it, we need to use it up. First use up the frig, then the freezer, then the pantry. Let's see how low we can go with our grocery budget this week. I am not planning to spend a cent. Not one red cent.

Think I will make spaghetti sauce in the crockpot. I need to get that in right now and put it on high. Then canned applesauce mixed with peaches from the frig, and leftover salad.

I make the salad this way.
Put lettuce, celery and carrots together.
Then cut up tomatoes, cukes and other wetter veggies. Store them seperately. Then add them to the individual plates when you are serving, so as to keep the lettuce longer. I read about this on the blog called Homemaking on the Homestead. It is in my bloglist.

I need to mop the kitchen floors. Now, most of you are probably really good about taking care of your home. I struggle with it. Probably cause I don't like to do it. I would much rather spend my day leisurely knitting and crocheting...lol

Bought this pattern from Just Crochet. It was supposed to button in the back, all the way down, but I wanted it to button in the front. I changed up the sleeves, put elastic instead of ribbon, and the collar, my own pattern sort of for the collar, the sleeve endings and the sweater endings.
This is a newborn to 3 month size. This is called Angel top and floppy hat, JC36B

Since I haven't finished anything this week, thought I would take pics of projects in progress.
3 toddler sweaters, the yellow one is crocheted. The gold one is using 3 strands of very thin yarn, white, yellow and gold.
The scarf is my pattern, it has a keyhole up 12 inches, to put the other side through. I guess it is more a scarflet.

Hopefully all of these projects will be done this week.
I also have 3 afghans in progress, but they take me so long to finish. That will be months away, I'm afraid. One is a rectangle granny, another is a pink and cream baby afghan, and the third one is my own creation. Sure hope I can remember how to do it, since I made up the pattern myself...

I made a bed for my kitty. He likes to sleep with me, on the bed, and I wanted him to have his own little bed. This is a very easy pattern, using 4 strands of ww yarn, and 1 strand of fun fur. I did make the sides a bit taller than the pattern, then folded it down a bit. I made it in about 3 hours. easy peasy pattern

I had some 4 round granny squares, and what did I find on Susie's Stuff? A hat pattern using 4 round grannies. Now hers were all pretty, with the squares being the same, but I just sort of kept to the same color category. Showing both sides of the hats. This is called Granny Square Hat.

the two sweaters that I knitted on commission. Don't know why the pink one looks so bunchy, it doesn't really, I must have bunched it up for the camera a bit. The larger sweater is purple, don't know why my camera makes it look navy blue, but it is purple.

I have been commissioned to make 2 children's sweaters by next Thursday. I found out about it Friday afternoon. Wow, lots of knitting for the next 6 days.
The purple sweater is a size 6, the pink is a size 4.
I have the sleeves and 5 inches of the body done. I am ahead of schedule a bit. I figured 3 days for each sweater. If my arms hold out, I may be almost done today on the first one.

Two knitted hats

A toddler sweater, size 2, with bunnies around the yoke and pom pom bunny tails. I love it...

A rectangle afghan made with scrap yarn. I made 3, 5 round granny squares, and joined them together as I was crocheting the last round. Then I just crocheted the granny stitch around and around. I have lots to go, but wanted you to see that I have not been doing nothing.

A size 2 toddler sweater. Well these are the sleeves up to the armhole. You make the sleeves first, put them on a stitch holder, (I use yarn for that). Then make the body starting from the bottom, When you get to the armholes, attach them as you knit around, then do the yoke, the button edges and sew up the underarms. simple. The yoke will have bunnies on it.

By the way, I have lost 38 pounds in the last 2 years. I have a long way to go yet, but it is slowly coming off, very very very slowly. Look at 38 pounds of butter, and you can see how much is off me...

Lesson 5

I do not like the colors that I used, so these spiral buttons came out kind of ugly. I know they did, you don't have to be nice about it, they are just plain ugly. Next time I will use different colors and make prettier ones. Think I will just throw these ugly spiral ones away. UGLY...
